Breast Cancer Program

As breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women in Australia, it will impact all our lives at some stage either by affecting us personally or someone we know. In fact it is estimated that there are 20,000 new cases per year, resulting in  4-5 times that number living with breast cancer.*

In clinical practice one of the most common questions is how to reduce the risk of breast cancer and its recurrence.

Research to date shows that following a healthy lifestyle can help avoid breast cancer, in both prevention and recurrence, and improve the quality of life of breast cancer patients on all stages of their journey from treatment to survivorship.

The ELIA Lifestyle Medicine Centre has launched a new program that is combining all aspects of lifestyle medicine to support patients on their breast cancer journey. For 12 weeks, participants benefit from evidence-based scientific content and a supportive environment to make lifestyle choices that help prevent or reduce the risk of breast cancer.

The 12-week intensive lifestyle intervention is an evidence-based program that runs alongside standard cancer care and gives patients and clinicians new tools to improve breast cancer outcomes.

The program includes in-person appointments with an interdisciplinary team composed of lifestyle medicine board certified physicians, nurses, health coaches, exercise physiologist and dietitian that support participants during the 12-week lifestyle change journey. It is complemented by the ELIA Breast Cancer Lifestyle Plan, a health education content package facilitated on the ELIA Wellness digital platform.
